The collision, which involved a car and a van, occurred outside Rathcormac, some 30km north of Cork city.

It occurred shortly after 4pm on a stretch of road near the townland of Mondaniel.

The scene was attended by Fermoy gardaí, units of Fermoy Fire Brigade and paramedics.

Four people were treated at the scene for injuries and were later transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH).
