Fourth arrest made in connection with assault on O’Connell Street as man remains in serious condition

Gardaí have made a fourth arrest as part of the investigation into a serious assault on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street in Dublin on Sunday.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Thursday morning and is being detained at a garda station in Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The man (40s) injured in the incident is still in hospital and remains in a serious condition.

A man in his 30s, who was arrested on Monday, has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí continue to appeal to any individuals who were in the Cathal Brugha Street area, near the Living Room Bar, between 12.40am and 1.00am and any individuals who were on O’Connell Street Upper near the Spar shop, Funland, the tourism office or opposite the Spire, between 12.40am and 1.00am on Sunday morning, to contact them.

Anyone who has camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to Gardaí.

Investigations into the assault are ongoing.
