Frank Lampard linked with two clubs ahead of Chelsea return

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has been linked with a return to management in the Championship, ahead of a return to Stamford Bridge this weekend.

The former midfielder has been out of work since leaving his role as caretaker manager of the Blues last summer. As well as managing Chelsea, has also had stints in charge of Derby County and Everton.

It now seems that he could be in line for a return to the dugout on a permanent basis with reports linking him to management jobs at both League One outfit Birmingham City and Championship side Burnley. Amid the links, BirminghamLive had their say on the club making a move for Lampard this summer with Blues writer Alex Dicken commenting: “I think Frank Lampard is a credible candidate. I know he’s been out of work for a while now but the early part of his career – the Derby County job and then his first season at Chelsea was quite decent.”

Birmingham were relegated to League One on the final day of the Championship season. They are on the search for a new manager after Tony Mowbray’s decision to resign due to ill health.

Before he decides on his new club, Lampard has a role to complete at Stamford Bridge as he takes charge of an England team full of celebrities and ex-pros for the 2024 Soccer Aid Match. The game will see him come up against Mauricio Pochettino in the dugout with the Argentine taking charge of the rest of the world team just weeks after leaving his role as Chelsea boss.

The match takes place at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 9 June and will be shown live on ITV 1. The game raises money for UNICEF, previous years combined have seen more than £90 million raised for the charity.

Lampard will be helped in the dugout by former manager Harry Redknapp and popstar Robbie Williams. Former Chelsea duo Joe Cole and Gary Cahill are among the ex-players who will be playing under Lampard during the game.
