French Open Day 10 Quarter Final Recap 2024 – Perfect Tennis

On Day 10 at Roland Garros, two of the men’s quarterfinals were played, with Jannik Sinner and X progressing into Friday’s semi-finals.

Sinner was the first to move into the last four, cruising through his match against Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets, probably the most straightforward match he’s had so far in Paris.

Carlos Alcaraz then maintained his perfect record against Stefanos Tstisipas with a straightforward 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-4 win in 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Off the court, the story of the day was Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal from his quarterfinal with Casper Ruud due to the knee injury he aggravated against Cerundolo. A scan showed a tear in the meniscus, so it could be out for several weeks. He should probably speak to Federer about the best course of action, given that was the injury he returned from successfully in 2017 but also ended his career in 2022.

You can see a quick recap, match stats and highlights from the day’s matches below.

Superior Sinner Too Slick for Dimitrov

Jannik Sinner is in the Paris semi-finals after a commanding victory over Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday. The Italian secured a 6-2, 6-4, 7-6(3) and was largely untroubled against the 10th seed.

The 22-year-old, who won his first major at the Australian Open in January, dominated the two-hour, 30-minute playing with high intensity, hitting 29 winners and breaking Dimitrov’s serve four times in a one-sided quarterfinal.

Although he faced some pressure when serving for the match at 5-4, he ultimately sealed the victory in the third-set tie-break, with Dimitrov lacking any penetration in his game to cause problems.

Despite missing Rome from a hip injury, the Italian has looked strong in Paris, dropping just one set. But I was very disappointed with Dimitrov’s game as he didn’t turn up, and his forehand sprayed several errors.

Sinner took charge from the baseline in most rallies, and Grigor never looked like he could get back on the front foot.

With the victory, Sinner is set to rise to the world number one ranking following Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal due to a right knee injury.

I am very happy. We have played a couple of times before and know what to expect. We played a final in Miami and it is always tough to play against him. He is such a great talent and nice guy. My performance was very solid, especially the first two sets. I had a little bit of pressure when serving for the match, but this is normal, this is tennis. I am happy with how I played later and to be in the semis Sinner on his win.

Alcaraz Tops Tsitsipas

Carlos Alcaraz moved ahead 6-0 in the head-to-head with Stefanos Tsitsipas thanks to a dominant 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-4 win in Tuesday’s quarterfinal.

The Spaniard has a tried-and-tested blueprint against Tsitsipas: He targets the backhand with a high-bouncing ball, gets on top in the rally, and invariably wins the point.

Alcaraz set the tone early with a break in the opening game and extended his control by racing to a 3-0 lead in the second set.

Tsitsipas finally found his game when he rallied late in the second set to force a tie-break, but Alcaraz quickly regained the upper hand to take it 7-3.

The third set was the closest of the three, but a timely break put Alcaraz 5-4 in front, and although he slipped to 0-30 when serving it out, he went back to basics and got the job done, throwing in a drop shot on match point to seal the deal.

Unfortunately, Tsitsipas hasn’t developed a way to counter Alcaraz’s tactics. While this is one of his worst matchups, it’s disappointing that he keeps playing the same way after losing their first five matches. It’s almost like the early Nadal vs Federer matches on clay, and I thought he played way too reactively in the first half of the match when he should have just dialled up his aggressiveness and tried to force the issue.
