Galway drivers fury as new road not laid a ‘wet week’ ripped up
Galway motorists have let their feelings be known after a recently laid stretch of road was ripped up again.
Council workers had recently finished relaying a stretch of the coast road much to the delight of motorists but it hasn’t lasted long.
A driver hoped to use the road yesterday when they encountered road workers ripping up a section of the recently laid surface.

While the individual realises that certain things don’t go to plan or may be delayed, he notes the section being worked on wasn’t “bad in the first place.”
One area he believes does need major work is from Oranmore train station to the bridge which he describes as being in “horrendous condition”
Taking to Facebook, the motorist said: “The coast road new section already ripped up!! It wasn’t done a wet week and they had a trench cut the new section of tar. Now they are ripping up a section up. I understand things don’t go to plan or schedule and may occur. But the road wasn’t bad in the first place.”
“The road from the train station into the bridge is horrendous and needed doing more than this section. Anyone know if there is a plan to do the rest of the road in?”
What makes this situation more of an issue is that the city and county council own separate sections of the road. The section owned by the county council has come in for particular criticism.
“The County Council section of the coast road is in a disgraceful condition station road is also very bad let’s hope that the new incoming councillors will do what the outgoing councillors did not do,” another local said.
