Galway garda raid nets huge drug haul as man arrested over near €150,000 bust
Gardai in Galway have arrested a man after a huge drugs bust saw them net almost €150,000 of illegal substances during a raid.
The raid took place on Friday 21 June 2024 with Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit all involved in the intelligence-led op.
Gardai reported a massive 7.1kg cannabis haul with an estimate value of €143,800, and arrested a man, in his 20s in connection with the haul. The arrested man is currently being detained at a Garda Station in Co Galway under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

“As part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 7.1 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €143,800 in the Galway area yesterday, Friday 21st June 2024.
“The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation involving Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit.
“A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained at a Garda Station in County Galway under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.”
Meanwhile, Galway weather is set for a stormy change. Weather models run over the next week or so seem to be developing extremes with the heat plume seemingly less stable that first thought. This will result in some stormy and thundery weather in some parts.
James Peacock wrote to X: “ECMWF on the other hand… This model seems to have an affinity for extreme scenarios lately. The low stalls to the W of the UK then slowly sinks southward while an unstable heat plume is drawn northward across all but the far SW of the UK. Hot for some, thundery for some. Wild!”
