Galway gardai warning people over ‘distressing’ incident as area targeted
Galway gardai have issued a warning to residents after a ‘distressing incident’ occurred in an area of the county this week.
People have been urged to look out after a woman’s home was broken into with burglars taking ‘all’ her jewellery.
To add insult to injury, the burglars threw any items they considered to be without value out of the car as they fled the scene.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Park West area near Cornberne and gardai, as well as the victim, have appealed to the public to ‘keep a lookout’.
In a post on social media, a local gardai for the area said: “COMMUNITY ALERT: Very Distressing Situation & Burglary. PLEASE READ. ANY INFORMATION PLEASE.”
They then shared the post written by the victim of the incident, who labelled the burglars ‘scumbags’ as they shared details.
The post read: “As already posted. my home in Park West was broken into on Monday afternoon. They took my jewellery, all silver apart from a gold Claddagh ring & a pair of stud earrings. Everything taken was in its original box. Because the scumbags had no value on the silver they started throwing it out of the car from Park Cross to the monastery junction.
“All items found so far have been on the left hand/passenger side heading towards the junction. Items were also found on the road from Castletown Cross heading to Newbridge (they burgled houses there & in Ballinamore Bridge around 3pm) I walked the road from Park Cross over on Monday evening & 4 of us walked & searched again yesterday.
“So far 6 items recovered in their boxes & the lid of one found in a field. Some of the missing pieces are gifts my late mother gave me. The photo shows what the pillowcase they used to carry my jewellery looked like on either side. They may have dumped this along either road maybe with some of my stuff still in it.
“Please if you walk, drive or live along either roads please keep a lookout for jewellery boxes in the grass verges and on the roadside. If you own land along these stretches of road please check your fields. Share this out & tell people you know. Contact Kathleen Connolly (086) 1065679.”
