Gardaí are investigating a suspected arson attack on a house in Ennis early yesterday.
The alarm was raised shortly after midnight on Friday when a fire was reported at a domestic residence on the Watery Road in the town.
Gardaí responded to the scene at around 12.20am along with units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station.
It’s understood there were people in the house at the time but they escaped injury. It’s also believed that the occupants attempted to extinguish the fire themselves.
It’s also understood that a number of men approached the house and used an accelerant to start a fire. They left the scene in a car.
Gardaí are investigating the incident.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating a criminal damage incident which occurred at a residence in Ennis shortly after midnight on Friday, 31st May.
No injuries were reported and investigations are ongoing.”
