Gardaí issue road closure advice ahead of concerts in Limerick’s Thomond Park

GARDAÍ have given some information and advice about the upcoming concerts in Thomond Park Stadium ahead of what promised to be a “brilliant weekend” for the city.

Superintendent Andrew Lacey spoke to concertgoers in a video posted on An Garda Síochána’s Limerick Instagram page.

He explained the systems that gardaí have enacted for the weekend, including “a large policing operation in place around the stadium, additional numbers on duty, and a traffic management plan for the main access routes to the venue”.

Superintendent Lacey went on to inform viewers that “road closures will be in place from approximately 3pm, and will reopen at 11:30pm over the weekend.

“For the first time ever at any event in Thomond Park Stadium, we will be closing the Old Cratloe Road from the TUS roundabout to Hassett’s Cross to add to the safety of crowds gathering when entering and leaving the venue.”

Gardaí are encouraging concertgoers to park in the city centre and walk to the venue, or to use public transport, such as the 302 bus.

Superintendent Lacey stressed that buses will not be affected by road closures.

Residents will have local access, he confirmed, before asking that all concertgoers “be cognisant that Thomond Park Stadium area is a large residential area and be respectful to those living nearby”.

“We encourage people to download the events app, the link to which is in our bio below, and to follow Limerick Garda social media pages Instagram and Facebook for live updates over the weekend”, he continued.

Superintendent Lacey thanked MCD, Thomond Stadium, Limerick City and County Council and local residents on behalf of An Garda Síochána for “all the help with making sure that everything is in place”.

The video ended with Superintendent Lacey assuring viewers that “as always, it’s our aim to keep people safe, and to ensure that they enjoy what’s going to be a brilliant weekend for Limerick city”.
