Gardaí launch investigation after woman assaulted while walking in Cork forest
A woman was assaulted by a man while walking a popular forest trail in North Cork yesterday.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred yesterday evening at the Island Wood trails in Newmarket.
Shortly after 7pm, the woman was assaulted by a man while out walking. The woman, who in her 30s, was not seriously injured and did not require any medical attention.
Gardaí have launched an appeal for any information as they investigate the incident. Gardaí in Mallow are asking anyone with any information or who saw anything suspicious to make it known to them. They have asked for any footage from the area within a six-hour window to be made available to investigators.
Road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Island Wood on the outskirts of Newmarket or the surrounding areas yesterday evening between 4.00pm and 10.00pm with camera, dash cam and action camera footage is asked to make this available to Gardaí.
Anyone who was walking, cycling, running or visiting the Island Wood walking trails yesterday evening and who may have noticed any unusual activity, is asked to contact investigating Gardaí at Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
