Gardai make grim triple discovery after pulling over learner driver
Gardaí in Connacht shared the details of an incident in which they caught a driver committing three potential offences at once with tyres in a shocking condition.
In a post shared online from the official Garda Síochána Traffic account, they made it clear that the driver had no reason whatsoever to be on the road.
“Roscommon Gardaí were on patrol when they stopped this car. It was found that the driver was an unaccompanied learner with no L-plates displayed and a cancelled insurance disc and two defective front tyres.”

“The car was seized. Court to follow,” the post concluded.
Bald tyres are more susceptible to punctures, and they no longer have adequate tread depth to channel water from under the tread. This means that when it rains or snows a driver may lose traction and control over the vehicle.
Two weeks ago Gardaí discovered another ‘triple offence’, with the Garda Traffic account posting:
“While Mayo Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a checkpoint on the N17 late last night, they detected this car being driven 171kp/h in a 100kp/h zone.”
Shockingly a crash had occurred on the same motorway just hours before this incident and the driver could have very nearly caused the next one.
The post continued: “When stopped, we discovered that the young driver was an unaccompanied learner permit holder and the car had a dangerously worn tyre. It was subsequently seized.”
In other policing news, Gardai are chasing down well known jewellery gangs following a spate of incidents across Galway this week as three incidents have already been probed.
A trio of jewellery thefts have been reported happening in three separate areas of Galway within the same day as the same vehicle was spotted on two occasions.
Gardai have warned people to be vigilant and appealed for witnesses to any suspicious activity in the three areas that were hit by the thefts.
In one incident, cash and jewellery were taken from a residence in Portumna on Friday June 29 between 11am and 1pm, with reports of a ‘suspicious’ blue BMW seen in the area.
