Gary Neville just hit nail on the head with Alexander-Arnold after England snub

Gary Neville expressed sympathy for Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool star was dropped for England’s final group game at Euro 2024.

Alexander-Arnold has come in for heavy criticism during the first two games at the tournament, having been named in midfield by Gareth Southgate. Roy Keane and Wayne Rooney have been among the most vocal of the critics rallying against the move.




They’ve got their wish for the Three Lions’ final game in Group C as they take on Slovenia, knowing that a win will see them finish top. England’s progression to the knockout stages has already been guaranteed, with at least a place as one of the top third-placed teams.

Alexander-Arnold has been dropped for the encounter though, with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher replacing him in the side in the only change made by Southgate.

Giving his thoughts on the Liverpool vice-captain dropping to the bench, Neville told ITV: “I do want to mention Trent Alexander-Arnold. I know it’s a big boy’s game and you can be left out of a football match, but I do feel that this is the best right-back we’ve ever produced by a million miles in terms of in possession, and he’s now sat on the bench wondering ‘what the hell’s going on?’. He’ll probably be devastated.”

Liverpool.com says: Finally someone says it. Alexander-Arnold is England’s best right-back, just as Jurgen Klopp has been telling us for years.
