Graduate Fashion Week: The weird and wonderful collections from Britain’s young designers
British fashion schools are considered among the best in the world. There’s brilliance to be found all over the UK, and we see the best of it at Graduate Fashion Week, taking place over the next few days.
The event offers young designers an opportunity to showcase their work to the wider industry, and it’s fertile scouting ground for major brands – from high street to high-end – looking to bolster their creative workforce. Also on the lookout are fashion buyers in search of the next big thing.
The brightest talents from each day of shows are awarded prizes and this early recognition can be career-defining. Previous talents spotlighted by GFW include Christopher Bailey, Stella McCartney, Julien MacDonald and Matthew Williamson.
So what can we expect from the next generation of talent? Well, it’s anything but ordinary. And before you ask who’s going to wear it for a mooch around the local Sainsbury’s, remember that this is raw fashion creativity.
