Green enjoying top-flight basketball in Mexico

JAMAICAN INTERNATIONAL Morgan Green is enjoying life in Mexico’s top-flight women’s basketball league for the red-hot Fuerza Regia.

The Carlos Alonso-coached team are the current league leaders, boasting a record of seven victories and one defeat from eight games.

“It’s been great, we are the number-one team in the league and we’re going to do our best to bring the championship to Fuerza,” said Green.

Green recently joined the Mexican outfit after finishing third in the Romanian league with Sfantu Gheorghe. Since her arrival in Mexico, Green, over four games has managed to log 6.3 points, 4.8 assist and four rebounds per game. The 27-year-old said the team is stacked with talented players and is focused on the task at hand.

“I’m very fortunate to play for a good club, and they’re doing a good job in taking care of us. We have a loaded team along with depth, and the hopes and expectations are really high. Life has been good. While I’m looking forward to discovering more things in Mexico right now, it’s business as usual,” said Green.

The talented point guard revealed that she’s slowly getting back to her usual self after suffering an injury that ruptured muscles in her quad and hip prior to joining the Fuerza Regia team. The team, she says, has given her the luxury of taking her time to get back to being the ‘floor general’ that she is.

“Right now, I’m coming into my own and that rhythm is right here with me. I’m excited to build with the team, in order to be able to peak at the right time. In the first couple of weeks, I was just getting acclimated, because it’s scorching hot. I’m grateful to be on a team with depth. Therefore it’s not all on me to be healthy right away and overexert or strain myself for us to be competitive,” she added.

While Green still harbours thoughts of booking a spot on a WNBA roster, she’s remembering to enjoy each stage of her basketball journey and focusing on continuous improvement.

“We’ll see what happens. Ultimately, my job is to get better every single day and to make the people around me better. If, along the path that I’ve created for myself, the WNBA is on the cards, then I’ll go for it.”
