Halfway mark reached on delivering important wastewater infrastructure to two Tipperary towns

€19 million investment that will improve local water quality and support future growth

Uisce Éireann is making significant progress on €19 million upgrade works to wastewater infrastructure in Ballina and Newport, Co. Tipperary, which will benefit the Premier County for decades to come.

This investment of €19 million in critical infrastructure will eliminate the discharge of poorly treated wastewater into the receiving waters, resulting in improved water quality as well as accommodating future population growth in Ballina and Newport and surrounding areas.

Paul Fallon, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said “These projects in Ballina and Newport are another example of Uisce Éireann’s commitment to providing quality water and wastewater services for the people of Tipperary. We know the importance of investing in critical wastewater infrastructure as an enabler of tourism, future development and population and business growth. These areas are currently served by overloaded and outdated wastewater treatment infrastructure and the delivery of upgraded infrastructure will improve the wastewater treatment quality and capacity and ensure compliance with wastewater discharge regulations.”

Work is due to be complete by the end of 2024 in Ballina, with works in Newport due for completion in early 2025. Ward and Burke are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Paul added: “We are thrilled to be working with our colleagues in Tipperary County Council, Ward and Burke, and most importantly the people of Ballina and Newport to deliver these vital upgrades of wastewater infrastructure.”
