Hilary Rose’s Best Things in Life: TV show, book, travel destination and memory

Hilary Rose always has us in stitches, whether it’s playing the hilarious matriarch Mairead MacSweeney on The Young Offenders or interviewing our favourite personalities on her podcast Live Wild. Now, the Cork actress tells RSVP all about the things that put a smile on her face, including her favourite TV show, her mother’s Sunday roast and why she feels like the luckiest woman in the world to have friends living in Barbados…

TV Show

Platonic on Apple TV. Rose Byrne is in it, she’s hilarious. It’s about a mother-of-three who is married but she has this platonic relationship with a male friend from college, that’s a bit wild and questionable. It’s funny and sweet and weird and I love it!

Singer

I love Beyonce. But looking at Irish singers, Lyra is killing it at the moment. I interviewed her for my podcast, she’s a fellow Corkonian, I went to her gig and we’ve become pals. She’s a real girls girl, too.

Book

Ooh, I have a library full of books. One I’m reading at the moment is called Conversations with God. It’s from the 1990s and I borrowed it from my yoga teacher. I like to read stuff that’s a bit out there.

Travel destination

Barbados. I have friends who live out there so I get to spend some time there. I know, I’m the luckiest person in the world! It’s amazing out there. I love it and would happily retire there, if someone would let me [laughs].

Place in Ireland

Kerry is fabulous. It’s so wild down there and I would say it’s my home away from home.

Food heaven

A Sunday roast lamb dinner from my mam always tastes delicious. I do love a good, soupy ramen as well.

Person

I’ve got really good friends that aren’t in the industry. I’m lucky to have a really good gang of girls who are my support structure in many ways, and me for them. They’re just really good women and we’ve always been there for each other through thick and thin.

Memory

Having my kids. Becoming a mother was a game changer and the most important thing – not that people without kids do not do amazing things, I’m not trying to say that – but for me, in my life it is the most special thing I ever did.

Piece of Advice

That’s simple. Go with the flow!
