Horror footage shows moment machete thugs launch daylight attack on teen
Shocking footage has surfaced showing a gruesome machete attack in north Dublin, leaving a teen with severe injuries, as a local councillor slams the perpetrators for their “blatant disregard for the public.”
The ghastly event unfolded around midday on Tuesday, July 2 at Poppintree Parade, Ballymun, where two individuals on a scrambler motorbike, wielding a hefty machete and a baseball bat, assaulted another male outside a shop. The harrowing CCTV footage from within the shop captures the moment the victim is knocked to the floor by the entrance as a security guard attempts to shield him.
Despite both being knocked down, the security guard manages to stand up and block one of the attackers, armed with a machete, from entering the premises. The brave security guard swiftly shuts the door of the shop and pulls down the shutters while the two armed assailants linger outside, reports the Irish Mirror.

A still image from an external CCTV camera shows the two attackers one perched on the scrambler bike clutching a baseball bat, and the other standing behind the bike flaunting the large machete. Local councillor Keith Connolly voiced his dismay and revulsion at the incident, criticising those involved for their “blatant disregard for the public.”
Cllr Connolly remarked: “There has been an issue for some time around that area of intimidation and open drug dealing and this has been raised at the Joint Policing Committee for a number of years now. What happened on Tuesday is shocking. Locals are in complete shock. It’s a busy area and for this to happen at lunchtime when kids are off school is absolutely shocking.”
“Those involved have a blatant disregard for the public and it was very traumatic for those who witnessed it in an area that should be safe. More resources need to be pumped into the area,” he said. One eyewitness is heard saying on a video of the aftermath of the scene “I am after seeing the whole lot of it there. Two lads on a scrambler, two machetes in each hand jumped off and tried to take yer man’s head off.
“Yer man on the front of the bike had a big baseball bat too. They tried to do harm to him. I am not joking. He must be in bits. Fair play to the security guard, shoved the lads off and banged the shutter down.”
An ambulance and several squad cars arrived at the scene within minutes and tended to the injured male before taking him to the Mater Hospital for treatment. Local councillor Conor Reddy also condemned the terrifying attack and warned “Someone will be killed.”
“It’s terrifying and adds to the sense of fear in the area. It’s not an isolated incident in the area. There were shots fired last week and an assault. Someone will be killed,” he warned.
“Kids witnessed this incident and it is traumatising for them and anyone else who saw it happen,” he said, adding that the Government needs to get involved to stop the gangs and violence the area is experiencing and to “pull people out of the cycle of crime, violence and drugs. Youth workers are doing unquantifiable work but they need to be funded permanently.”
Up to now, no arrests have been made but authorities confirm investigations are still happening. In a statement, An Garda Siochana said: “Gardai attended the scene of an assault on Tuesday, July 2 at approximately 1pm in Poppintree Parade, Ballymun.”
“One man, aged in his late teens, was seriously injured and taken to Mater Hospital for treatment. Investigations ongoing.”
