How Baylor Scheierman fared in his NBA Summer League debut
Former Creighton swingman Baylor Scheierman made his NBA Summer League debut Thursday night in Las Vegas.
Scheierman — selected by Boston with the 30th pick in June’s draft — showed flashes despite a slow start in the Celtics’ 119-114 loss to the Miami Heat. He went 4 for 9, including 3 of 7 from 3, with 13 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, a steal and a turnover in 24 minutes.
He missed his first three shots but impressed with his playmaking until his first bucket, a pull-up mid-range jumper from the free-throw line, with two minutes left in the first half.
Scheierman had a couple of high-IQ plays that ended in assists. He crashed the glass. He switched on to and defended Jaime Jaquez Jr., a second-year forward who played in 75 games for Miami last season.
His sharpshooting abilities from CU finally broke through in the second half. He walked into a transition triple a little more than a minute after the break, and he hit another on a catch-and-fire corner 3.
Scheierman and the Celtics’ next game is against Bronny James and the Lakers at 9:30 p.m. Monday.
