How long is a 27 candidate ballot paper?

Voters in the Midlands North West constituency will be handed a 73cm-long ballot paper containing the names of 27 candidates in tomorrow’s European elections.

Voters will go to the polls to vote in the local and European elections, while people in Limerick will vote for the city’s first directly-elected mayor.

According to the Department of Housing, for the Ireland South and Dublin constituencies, the ballot papers are approximately 64cm long.

Twenty-three candidates are running in the European Elections in both Dublin and Ireland South.

The Electoral Commission website has a sample ballot paper available for viewing for each European Election constituency available on its website.

For those with a visual impairment, a ballot paper template (a transparent plastic device that is placed on top of a ballot paper) will be available at every polling station.

This template has raised print and braille on it, allowing people with a visual impairment to vote independently.

Voting in the elections

Polling stations are open Friday 7 June from 7am to 10pm. When you arrive at your polling station you will be asked for your name and address. You may also be asked for a valid form of ID.

Once polling staff are satisfied, they will stamp a ballot paper for each election you are entitled to vote in and give them to you.

You must then take your ballot paper(s) into a private voting booth and mark your first preference candidate with a ‘1’, second preference as ‘2’ and so one for each ballot paper.
