As the cost-of-living crisis continues, the Department of Social Protection is offering to curb home heating costs with a little-known supplementary payment.

The Heating Supplement is a payment to help people who have extra heating needs with the cost of heating their home such as people that are ill or have a disability.

You may be eligible to receive the heating supplement if you can prove you have extra heating needs because of your age, medical condition or disability; are living alone or only with a dependent adult or dependent children; and satisfy a means test.

To apply for the payment, you must fill out an application form at your local Community Welfare Service where the Community Welfare Officer can help you fill in the form.

If you are unhappy with the decision of a Community Welfare Officer on your application, you can ask for an internal review to re-examine the decision. It is recommended you submit as much additional information as possible to help your case.
