HS tennis: Staten Island Academy’s Tyler Bush cops Interscholastic boys’ singles crown
Tyler Bush of Staten Island Academy won a pair of matches to capture the Staten Island Interscholastic boys’ singles championship on Wednesday at the College of Staten Island.
In the semifinals, he blanked Curtis Alex Shevnin and then dispatched of teammate Russell Nour in the final 6-2, 6-1.
On Wednesday, the girls’ portion of the tournament started.
In the doubles, top-seed Dana Neyman/Alina Pokhiko of McKee/Staten Island Tech demonstrated they are the top team on the Island as they beat St. Joseph Hill’s top duo Victoria D’Agostino and Sophia Romeo, 8-1.
In girls’ singles, MSIT proved once again to tough for the competition. In the best match of the day, Nicole Soltsov (Tech) held off an improving Emily Agushi (Hill) 7-5, 6-3. She faces teammate and top-seed Priyanka Shah in the final. Shah reached the final via a competitive match over teammate Katherine Kobichev 6-2, 6-4.
