Huge 150-1 Derby outsider will ‘massively outrun odds’ with top jockey booked

A HUGE 150-1 Derby outsider is being tipped to ‘massively outrun his odds’ for a top trainer – and go down possibly as the biggest-priced winner of the race ever.

Andrew Balding’s Sayedaty Sadaty – who will be ridden by Tom Marquand – has seen his price smashed into as short as 66s since being put up by respected tipster Tony Calvin.

Sayedaty Sadaty is owned by loaded owner Ahmad Al Shaikh, who has made no bones about his desire to win the world’s most prestigious Flat race.

Sun Racing columnist Matt Chapman wrote recently how Al Shaikh craves success in the Derby.

He said: “In recent years, he has had horses significantly outrun their market expectations in the race, with Khalifa Sat second at 50-1 in 2020 and Hoo Ya Mal also runner-up at odds of 150-1 two years later.”

So it is interesting that Sayedaty Sadaty and Al Shaikh’s other horse Deira Mile have both been latched onto by punters ahead of Saturday’s £1.5million race.

Deira Mile impressed in an Epsom gallops and the Owen Burrows-trained colt has been cut from 66-1 into as short as 20-1.

But it’s Sayedaty Sadaty who could spring the biggest shock of all and potentially go down as the longest-odds Derby winner in history after 100-1 victors Jeddah, Signorinetta and Aboyeur.

The three-year-old has one victory to his name – a Class 5 mile race at Kempton last August.

And in truth, up against the likes of 5-2 favourite City Of Troy, you’d find little in his form to go on.

But Calvin wrote on Betfair that he likes the fact the horse was curiously missing from a stable tour Balding gave earlier this season.

While he pointed out Sayedaty Sadaty finished second in the same Newmarket Listed race Hoo Ya Mal used as a prep before finishing runner up in the Derby at those giant odds.

Calvin wrote on Betfair: “Granted, the horse will have come rather a long way if he wins this, having effectively run out when odds-on at Windsor last August, and his two efforts this season barely entitle him to hold his current mark of 102, if truth be told.

“However, he does have experience of the track and he probably ran his best race yet when a 4-length second to Caviar Heights in a good time (the clock-watchers liked it, anyway) over 1m2f at Newmarket last time (the winner was bitterly disappointing at 4s in the Dante but that surely wasn’t his true running).

“And this horse’s pedigree suggests he will improve for this greater test of stamina.

“The sire was a miler but he has got 1m4f to 2m winners (at a lower level) and the dam won over 1m6f on heavy ground in France.

“I have a gut feeling he could massively outrun his, well, massive odds.”

While Al Shaikh sounded pretty confident too, telling the Racing Post: “Some people have hundreds of horses and don’t have a runner in the Derby, so I’m very privileged.

“I like it when I’m an outsider, as I feel we have less pressure and more chance.

“The horses don’t know their prices and people don’t know how well they’re working at home.

“Sayedaty Sadaty has finished second twice in Listed races and they’ve got him at around 100-1.

“He’s improving all the time and his pedigree suggests the mile and a half should hopefully be fine.

“I was very surprised at his price and he’ll run better than his odds suggest.”
