HUNDREDS OF YOUNG CRICKETERS ENJOY EXPANDED SCHOOLS WEEK OF CRICKET – Cricket Scotland
Hundreds of young cricketers put their skills to the test at our biggest-ever Schools Week of Cricket, that, for the first time, took place across three days in Perth last week.
On Tuesday, we held our first-ever Disability Schools Cup at Perth’s North Inch, with pupils from Falkirk High School and Carrongrange High School enjoying a day of skills and games alongside Scotland Men’s international Chris McBride.
On Wednesday and Thursday, over 300 boys and girls took part across our primary and secondary schools competition, with schools from right across Scotland competing to be crowned National Champions.
In the primary schools events on Wednesday, Cargilfield enjoyed double success, winning the Girls’ final against The Glasgow Academy, and the Boys’ final against George Watson’s College. Thursday’s secondary school action saw Strathallan triumph in the Girls’ competition, defeating Morrison’s Academy in the final, whilst the Boys’ event was won by Robert Gordon’s College, who defeated Larbert High School in the final.
Nic Wilson, Cricket Scotland Head of Development, said: “It’s one of the highlights of our year, and it was great to have events over three days at the North Inch this year, with our first disability event on Tuesday, which was really exciting.
“We’ve had around 350-400 children involved across the three days which has been great to see, and we’ve had some wonderful cricket played across every day.
“A huge thanks must go to everyone involved in organising the event, and congratulations to the winning teams, and to everyone who took part!”
On Saturday, the Inspire Sport Scottish Schools Cup took centre-stage, with the Under 18s hard ball finals taking place across Edinburgh. Fettes College won the Girls’ event, defeating Mary Erskine in the final. In the Boys’ final, George Watson’s College were triumphant, defeating Merchiston Castle.
The Under 15s competitions fell victim to the weather on Friday. The Girls Under 15s Final will now take place on Saturday 22 June, whilst the Boys Under 15s Final is scheduled for Monday 24 June.
