I have started using coconut oil during sex – but is it safe for my girlfriend?

DEAR DEIDRE: IS IT dangerous for a man to use coconut oil during intercourse?

I’m a 25-year-old guy and I have just started having sex with my new girlfriend.

The first time we did it we were struggling to get things going so I used some coconut oil as lubricant.

I didn’t tell my girlfriend as it’s worked for me before with no issues.

Now she says that she’s sore down there and when I told her I used coconut oil, she blamed that.

Could the coconut oil have caused her to have a reaction?

DEIDRE SAYS:  Coconut oil is a safe option for most people as it doesn’t have any added chemicals.

You can use pure coconut oil in a solid or liquid form.

But don’t use this as a lubricant with latex condoms as the oil will degrade the rubber used in the condoms.

Your partner’s skin may be sensitive and this could have caused a reaction.

If the discomfort persists, encourage her to visit her GP.
