I put on a brave face for the world, says RTE star after numerous miscarriages
RTE star Sinead Hussey has opened up about the numerous miscarriages she suffered over the past three years.
The Irish journalist and her husband Brendan have two kids, Aoibhin, who was born in 2017, and Darragh, who was born this year in January 2024.
Sinead revealed that she had two miscarriages before she gave birth to her daughter at 34-years-old.
The Midlands Correspondent returned to work after maternity leave and as time went on, she decided she wanted to give her little one a sibling and try for another child.
Sinead assumed there’s be “no issues” in getting pregnant and was taken “completely by surprise” when she found it difficult.
The 41-year-old told The Irish Times: “January 2021 was the start of what happened to be a very long road. I think if I thought then what was ahead of me, I’m not sure I would have been able for it.”

In July 2021, Sinead went to the hospital scan on her own, due to covid restrictions, and found out she had suffered a third miscarriage.
Sinead recalled the heartbreaking moment saying: “One of my standout memories from that day is, when I got bad news, I just walked out, and it was a July day, but it was actually quite cold, and you’re standing facing Merrion Square, and the wind was blowing.
“And I just didn’t know where to go, or what to do and I couldn’t get to the car quick enough. I couldn’t even pick up the phone to tell Brendan what was going on.”
Later that same year in December, Sinead miscarried again and “just had to get on with it” as she said: “I remember getting ready for Christmas and having to put it all behind you and put on a brave face for the world.”

Sinead kept trying for a second child and miscarried twice again after.
The radio star’s life was but on hold as she was pregnant, miscarrying or in recovery for three years and was “difficult to be around”.
Sinead explained: “I was just very sad, resentful, jealous. All these horrible ugly feelings you don’t want to feel, but you do and then you feel absolutely terrible for feeling them.”
Sinead became pregnant again in April 2023 and was monitored constantly throughout her pregnancy and was “terrified” she was going to lose the baby right up until she heard “Darragh’s first cry”.
Speaking said: “That’s what happens with pregnancy loss. You lose confidence in everything, in yourself more so than anything. You feel like your body has failed you. It feels like it won’t work out because when you’re on the wrong side of statistics a couple of times, a lot of that hope is gone. And a lot of that innocence is gone.”
Five months after giving birth, Sinead has said she’s doing well but has a lot of “trauma” she’s still dealing with.
