I’m a style editor — here’s how I pack a capsule travel wardrobe for my holidays
Summer holiday season: time for far-flung getaways, tropical destinations and leaving the everyday behind. Unless, like most of us, you bring everything in your wardrobe. That’s where creating a capsule travel wardrobe comes in.
Contrary to popular belief, it needn’t be abstemious. It can be as fragrant and flagrant as you wish, provided you adhere to a few rules.
Firstly, you don’t need that many pairs of shoes. Think of styles that do double duty across day and night occasions like a pair of decorative mules.
Flying with hand luggage only? Penneys’ plait strap beauties slide easily into a packing cube and are available in three colours.
The same applies to dresses: their one-and-done appeal is tempting but wear one and you’re pretty much done.
A kaftan, on the other hand, provides more styling opportunities.
Try yours over a swimsuit at the beach or belted with Castañer rope heels while relaxing over lunch. Why not layer one over linen trousers when the sun goes down?
For multiple outfit iterations, the key is to embrace separates in a cohesive colour scheme.
Pack solid colour tops and printed bottoms that can easily mix and match.
Prefer joyful palettes? Scandi names like Stine Goya and Essentiel Antwerp won’t leave you in the shade.
Speaking of which, lifestyle brand Rae Feather (check out their recently opened boutique in Dublin’s Westbury Mall) is a go-to for chic straw sun hats and, of course, signature monogrammed baskets and bags. Practical and pretty fabulous too!
