I’m a Travel Editor, and I Pack These Comfy, Effortlessly-cool Vuori Leggings for Every Trip

As a travel editor who lives in a Southern California beach town, my athleisure game is honed to perfection. In my adopted hometown, we simply don’t dress up — and I love that about us. Comfort is key. Still, everyone manages to look cute in that effortless, California-cool way I’m finally mastering after moving from New York City five years ago. 

How did I get there, you ask? Step one: Find the leggings. The ones that make you feel good, go with everything, and offer substantial coverage without being too thick or restrictive. It’s one thing to look breezy and cool, but in order to authentically pull it off, you have to feel it, too.

Vuori Daily Legging

For me, those game-changing leggings are the Daily Legging from Vuori. Let’s just say they call them “Daily” for a reason. While the scenery in my daily life may change often — at any given moment it’s pretty much guaranteed that I’m either working from a plane, exploring a new place, or walking my dog by the water — I have found one constant: this same pair of leggings works well in any of these scenarios. 

It makes sense they come from Vuori, a brand from San Diego County that’s all but become the official SoCal uniform. Somehow, these magical leggings are just as at home on the Strand (that’s our local beachside path, where we all walk our dogs, wearing our Vuori) as they are on safari in Botswana, at a desert wellness retreat in Joshua Tree National Park, or on a rainy walk through the forest in England. Regardless of the season, you can bet two to three pairs of these are in my suitcase. (A black pair is guaranteed, plus at least one other color is the move.) We all know suitcase space is precious, and that level of versatility is what we call space well earned. 

When shopping for leggings, I’m a firm believer that you must, at all cost, avoid the lethal triple S: put down any pair that slips, sags, or suffocates. Before finding these, I was often self-conscious in leggings — unlike all my volleyball-playing neighbors, I wasn’t blessed with legs for days — but somehow, Vuori’s Daily Legging manages the perfect fit. 

They’re high-waisted with a drawstring that subtly cinches, and are cuffed at the ankle in a way that seems to elongate even my short legs. Best of all, they’re stretchy and lightweight, but never see-through. I’ve had more expensive pairs from trendy fitness brands leave me feeling exposed or just deeply uncomfortable.

Vuori says its unique fabric has “smoothing coverage and an airbrushed finish,” and I couldn’t describe these better myself. You can certainly work out in the Daily Legging (I often wore them while training for a marathon and can vouch they are, as claimed, moisture-wicking), but you don’t have to. You can wear them while traveling, running errands, or hanging with friends. Or, you can move to California, buy them in multiple colors, and slowly get rid of the rest of your wardrobe. It happens to the best of us.
