‘I’m embarrassed by it’ – Mzbel refuses to travel outside just to give birth | 3News
Ghanaian songstress Belinda Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has stated emphatically that she will not travel to give birth overseas in order to give her kids a foreign passport.
The singer, who was born and raised in Ghana, stated that even with the seeming benefits, she does not think it is wise to obtain foreign citizenship by having a kid abroad.
In an interview on Wontumi TV, Mzbel while sharing her honest opinion on the matter, said she feels embarrassed by what appears to be the current trend now amongst celebrities.
She emphasized that, choosing to give birth overseas would imbibe in her children the idea that they should search for better possibilities outside of Ghana.
“People were asking why I did not give birth abroad, but I felt shy to do so. Having Ghanaian blood, why would I stay abroad to give birth just for some opportunities?” Mzbel questioned.
“I won’t do it because I don’t want my children to believe one must travel abroad to succeed. It’s a common practice, but I’m embarrassed by it,” Mzbel elaborated.
Her remarks come on the back of the recent debate sparked by a Ghanaian based in Netherland who said the Dutch passport is worth more than a PhD from the University of Ghana.
Kofi Gabs who works as a cleaner in Netherland made the comment after he recently acquired his Dutch passport which he said facilitated an easy traveling process when he planned to visit a friend in the United States.
