IRELAND women’s football captain has lashed out at cruel trolls spreading rumours about her personal life.

Dubliner Katie McCabe (28) has been linked to her Arsenal teammate Caitlin Ford after the pair shared cosy pictures of a trip they made to Italy last month.

But Katie is furious after gossip emerged about her talking to a mystery woman at a DJ booth in Ibiza.

An emotional Katie took to Snapchat and while she pointed out she rarely talks about her private life, she felt now was the moment to address rumours about her.

“I don’t usually really do this type of thing or respond to these types of things but it’s literally people spreading rubbish on social media and I can’t really control what people make up,” she said.

“But, can I just ask, to those of you who have taken hours and hours out of your life to try and cause an issue, like, have you ever tried to talk to a friend next to a DJ booth?”

“It’s honestly been awful to see the rumours that have been spread.”

She then ended her video saying the matter has been taken up with various social media outlets and “they are probably dealing with these accounts now that shared.”

She added: “It’s not been nice, it’s not been nice to hear or read.”

Katie is one of 10 siblings, six sisters and four brothers, from Kilnamanagh in Dublin and has been playing for the senior Irish team since 2016.

She is openly gay and in 2019 revealed she was in a relationship with a fellow female footballer.
