Ireland squad announcement LIVE as panel to be named for South Africa Tour

The Ireland Rugby squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa will be named at 4.30 pm as they face two big tests against the reigning World Champions.

It will be the first time the national team meet up since capturing Six Nations glory earlier this year and there are few stiffer tests in test rugby at the moment than taking on South Africa.

The Webb Ellis Cup winners sit top of the world rankings with Ireland in second and both sides will be desperate for bragging rights.

The first test match takes place on July 6 at Luftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria while the second test takes place a week later at Hollywoodbets Kings Park in Durban.

Despite a long season of rugby that saw both Leinster and Munster dumped out in the URC semi-final stages, Andy Farrell has a healthy player pool to choose from.

One person who will definitely not be on the plane is Hugo Keenan with the Leinster and Ireland star traveling to Paris for this summer’s Olympic Games.

Farrell will name the panel at 4.30 pm Irish time and we will have all the live updates right here on the Irish Mirror.

No Hugo Keenan in Ireland squad

One person who definitely will not be involved in Ireland’s South Africa squad is Hugo Keenan.

The star full-back has been named in the Irish Rugby Sevens squad for the Paris Olympics. Keenan was named alongside stalwart Jordan Conroy in the squad yesterday.

There was, however, disappointment for Meath star Vikki Wall who did not make the cut and is not a travelling reserve.

Hello and welcome

Hello and welcome to live coverage as Andy Farrell names his squad for Ireland’s upcoming tour in South Africa.

Ireland play the reigning world champions twice, on July 6 and 13, and it is a meeting of the world’s two top-ranked teams.

It has been a rollercoaster year for Irish Rugby with Farrell’s side winning the Six Nations but the provinces suffered bitter disappointment both domestically and in Europe.

But the players will have to shake off that disappointment quickly enough with the Irish boss expected to name a strong squad for the tour.

An announcement is expected at 4.30 pm and the Irish Mirror will have all the live updates right here so make sure to stay tuned to all the updates.
