Irish actors join cast of Netflix show The Sandman

Irish actors Ruairi O’Connor, Laurence O’Fuarain and Jack Gleeson are set to join the cast of the second season of Netflix fantasy drama The Sandman.

Based on the DC comic series written by Neil Gaiman, The Sandman follows the adventures of a powerful cosmic being who controls dreams.

After he is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for over a century, he must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused.

Dubliner O’Connor, who has previously appeared in What Richard Did and Handsome Devil, joins the cast as Orpheus, the poet, musician, and oracle, who is an idealistic, romantic, young man until tragedy strikes.

Game of Thrones and Vikings actor Laurence O’Fuarain will play is Thor, the storm god, while Jack Gleeson, best known for playing Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones, will play Puck, “a malevolent hobgoblin who serves as the royal jester to King Auberon of Faerie”.

Steve Coogan also joins the new season as the voice of Barnabas, the canine companion of the Endless’s prodigal brother.

Previously announced returning cast includes Tom Sturridge, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Patton Oswalt (he/him), Vivienne Acheampong, Jenna Coleman, Stephen Fry, Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeev Bhaskar.
