Irish Rail services impacted following reports of smoke on Cork to Heuston train

Irish Rail

Irish Rail has warned of significant delays after services were suspended earlier today between Heuston and Hazelhatch.

This afternoon, reports of smoke in one of the cabins on the Heuston to Cork route resulted in Dublin Fire Brigade being alerted and attending to the train.

Passengers on board were detrained 100 yards from the Clondalkin/Fonthill station and smoke was not reported on board or within the cabins.

The incident resulted in the suspension of services between Heuston and Hazelhatch and while services have since resumed, Irish Rail said there are delays.

According to Irish Rail, passengers who were on board the 16:00 Heuston/Cork service were accommodated on later trains that were due to arrive in the Clondalkin station.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail said the smoke was found to have come from the bogie section of the train, located under one of the carriages and near the wheels.

The passengers were initially moved back within the train by staff and when fire services arrived, passengers were assisted off the train at Clondalkin.

“All services were suspended through there while that was happening,” the spokesperson said.

Services continue to be impacted this evening and Irish Rail has advised passengers that the 19:25 and 20:25 Cork to Heuston services will be amalgamated and will depart at 20:25.
