Isaiah Mbeng Signs with Tribe Basketball – William & Mary Athletics

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men’s basketball head coach Brian Earl announced the signing of Isaiah Mbeng (Potomac, Md. / Winston Churchill / Prolific Prep Post Grad) to a National Letter of Intent on Monday. Mbeng is the second freshman and seven player overall to sign with the Tribe for the 2024-25 season.

“Isaiah comes from a talent-rich area of the DMV area and is a cerebral player,” Earl said. “He is an excellent passer and creator who will help both in pushing the ball and in the half court. Having spent a season at prep school, Isaiah is physically mature and is an exceptional defender.”

Last season, Mbeng spent a spot-graduate year at Prolific Prep. Originally from Potomac, Md., he averaged 17.9 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals per game as a senior at Winston Churchill. The 6-2 guard was selected to the Washington Post All-Met Third Team as well as being named first team all-county and all-division in 2023. He was rated the No. 13 player in the DMV area (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) by Prep Hoops.

Mbeng helped lead Churchill to county championships in 2022 and 2023. As a junior, he helped lead Churchill to the Maryland 4A state championship, before falling in double OT to Eleanor Roosevelt .

Mbeng comes from a basketball family. His older brother, Benz, is a senior at Yale and is the two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year.

Mbeng joins fellow freshman Ryan Jackson (Mesa, Ariz./AZ Compass Prep) along with transfers Keller Boothby (Plano, Texas / Prestonwood Christian Academy / Cornell), Malachi Ndur (St. Thomas, Ontario / Cushing Academy / Brown), Kyle Pulliam (Silver Spring, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel / St. Thomas Aquinas) and Jack Scott (Colorado Springs, Colo. / The Hun School / Princeton) as part of the Tribe’s incoming class.
