He wrote: “Sorry to all my family and friends who are getting Christmas presents from Dunnes this year.”

At the beginning of the video he said: “Down at Dunnes bringing the cans back to get the money back that we’re owed.

“I want to show you a little hack that my dad told me about.”

Holding up the bag of empty cans and bottles, he adds that the hack “might make it worth your while”.

After returning the cans he tells viewers to tap payout, showing his receipt for €24.60.

He explained: “Bring it into the store and ask can you get it put onto a gift card.”

He then shows the gift card in his hand, saying: “Then save it all up and get yourself something nice for Christmas.”

Viewers took to the comments section of Marty’s video to share their opinions.

One person commented: “I have added them to my app.

“Just go into Dunnes app, add that gift card and then going forward bring receipt in, open app, click into gift card and the cashier will scan the barcode and it adds to it.

“Better that way in case you loose your wallet or gift card and you most likely always have your phone with you.”

Marty replied to this comment by saying it was “brilliant”.

Another person said: “That’s actually the most brilliant use of time & money I’ve seen so far with this ridiculous time consuming pain in the a** extra thing we have to do in life!”

Someone else commented: “Collect mine for the boys’ holiday fund, collect grandparents bottles too and have over €50 now – ice cream money sorted.”

Another person asked: “Can you continue to put money on the same card?”

People replied to this comment to confirm that you can.
