Jack Chambers named new Minister for Finance
Jack Chambers is the new Minister for Finance after Michael McGrath was nominated by the Government as Ireland’s next European Commissioner.
The Dublin West TD was first elected to the Dáil in 2016 and was most recently a Minister of State at the Department of Transport.
Mr Chambers’ formal appointment as finance minister will take place tomorrow.
The 33-year-old served as government chief whip from 2020 to 2022.
Last week he was appointed Fianna Fáil deputy leader with the Tánaiste Micheál Martin praising his skill in organising the party’s recent local elections campaign.
Mr Martin also cited Mr Chambers’ work as Chief Whip during the early days of the Government.
Mr Chambers was most recently the Minister of State at the Department of Transport where he had led the way on reducing speed limits on the country’s roads.
That post is a super junior role which means Mr Chambers has attended Cabinet meetings for the last four years.
