Jon Rahm WITHDRAWS from the US Open as he battles foot infection

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm has withdrawn from this week’s US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 due to an injury.

Rahm withdrew midway through last week’s LIV Golf Houston event and revealed on Tuesday that he has been battling a foot infection.

‘After consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is best for my long term health, to withdraw from this weeks US Open Championship,’ Rahm said in a statement.

‘To say I’m disappointed is a massive understatement! I wish all my peers the best of luck and want to thank all of the USGA staff, volunteers and community of Pinehurst for hosting and putting on what I’m sure will be an amazing championship! Hopefully I’ll be back in action sooner than later!’

At a press conference before he officially withdrew, Rahm called the ailment a ‘concern’.

‘It was supposed to last the whole round, and by my second hole I was in pain already,’ Rahm told reporters of a numbing shot he received, per ESPN.

‘The infection was the worrisome part. The infection is now controlled, but there’s still swelling and there’s still pain.’

Reports indicate that Rahm showed up to his press availability on Tuesday wearing a flip-flop on his left foot as well as a toe separator.

Rahm says the cut on his foot, which forced him to withdraw just six holes into the second round at LIV’s Houston event, is between his fourth and fifth toes.

‘Could I have dragged myself out there and posted some kind of a score? Yeah.’ Rahm said.

‘But it was getting to a point where I wasn’t making the swings I wanted to make, and I could have hurt other parts of my swing just because of the pain. As to right now [playing] this week, I don’t know.’

This season, Rahm has not performed nearly a modicum as well as he did the season before – where he won The Masters and had top-ten finishes at the US Open as well as The Open Championship.

In 2024, Rahm finished tied for 45th at The Masters and missed the cut at the PGA Championship at Valhalla.
