Karl Hein signs new Arsenal contract after late talks

Karl Hein has signed a new contract with Arsenal. The Estonian international goalkeeper was announced on the list of players who would see their contracts expire at the end of this month but was in negotiations over a new deal which has since been successful.

Both Amario Cozier-Duberry and Reuell Walters however are expected to leave the club when the month ends, taking the total number of expired deals across the men’s and women’s teams to 24. Hein is understood by football.london to be likely to leave the club this season on loan to get some much-needed senior experience.

Upon signing his new deal Hein said: “I’m delighted to extend my contract and continue my journey in this amazing club after six years. Hopefully, there will be even more good memories and successes for the club.”

Sporting director Edu Gaspar has been successful in signing plenty of senior stars to new deals and recently saw both Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly sign professional contracts. it was evident in his words that this was another example of keeping much-needed talent at the club.

“We’re very happy that Karl will continue his development as an Arsenal player,” he said. “He’s an exciting prospect and a popular member of the squad. We look forward to seeing him progress to the next stage of his career.”

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta, who handed Hein his senior debut against Brighton in the Carabao Cup spoke of his appreciation for the stopper. It will be interesting how Hein’s decision impacts his career in the short term.
