Kate Lee to Captain Women’s Tennis Team for 2024-25 Season – Naval Academy Athletics

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Rising senior Kate Lee has been selected as team captain for the 2024-25 Navy women’s tennis season, head coach Keith Puryear announced Monday.

Lee will lead a squad that returns nine Midshipmen from the 2024 Patriot League Championship-winning group, highlighted by fellow rising senior and three-time First Team All-League honoree Emily Tannenbaum.

“I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to be part of a team full of talented and hardworking individuals not only as a teammate, but now as a leader,” said Lee. “The team and I are looking forward to what more we can bring home after this past record-breaking season.”

Winner of the John “Pat” Rooney Award as the Patriot League Championship MVP, Lee had an impressive junior campaign that featured a 15-10 record in singles action and 19-12 mark in doubles play. Highlighted by a 3-1 record in Patriot League singles matches, the Concord, California native tallied a 7-2 mark over her final 10 singles matches. Lee also clinched two of the biggest wins of Navy’s season in that stretch by beating Army’s Emma Sy in the Star Match and then rallying for the victory against Boston’s Emily Zhao in the league finals. Additionally, Lee and classmate Parvathi Shanker teamed up in doubles play to form one of Navy’s most consistent pairings at 19-12, as the duo partnered to go 13-6 in the spring and won all three of their doubles matches in the league tournament.

“We are looking forward to having Kate as the next team captain,” said Puryear. “She has the complete trust and support of the coaching staff, the upperclassmen and the team as a whole. Some of Kate’s best leadership qualities are her empathy for others and her level headedness. We all know she will do an amazing job and we are looking forward to supporting her.”

Lee will inherit the captaincy from the recently-graduated Stella Ribaudo.
