Kids conquer basketball court with skills and enthusiasm at Vikings tournament
Around 60 children showcased their skills in a competitive and fun environment when Stortford Vikings Basketball Club hosted a 3×3 tournament.
Kids from across the region took part in competitions for under-12s, under-15s and under-18s at Birchwood High School’s sports hall.
Players, coaches, families and fans came together to create an electric atmosphere that celebrated both individual and team achievements.
“The level of play was exceptional, with each game fiercely contested,” said club founder and head coach Phil Molyneux after the event on June 1. “The finals in each age group were particularly intense, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the spectators.
“The under-12s displayed remarkable skill and teamwork, the under-15s brought an impressive level of competition and the under-18 finals were a thrilling showcase of speed, agility and strategic play.

“The love of the sport is what brought us all together. With basketball on the rise throughout the country, we are hopeful this will become an annual tradition.”
Hoops Hustlers under-15s won their event before also taking the under-18 title as some under-15 sides made up the numbers in the older age category following some late withdrawals. The under-12 champions were Stortford Storm.
The Vikings were recently successful in their bid to secure a £3,000 sports grant from Bishop’s Stortford Town Council for a new electronic scoring clock. The equipment, which will also be used by Birchwood students during exams, means they can now host league matches instead of being forced to always travel.
Molyneux is also hoping to expand the club, which he founded in November 2021, by recruiting new players and coaches.
