Killarney tourist robbery case sent to Circuit Court

The case of a 24-year-old man who is alleged to have robbed an elderly American tourist of her handbag near Killarney National Park is to be dealt with at the Circuit Court, after the judge in the District Court refused jurisdiction.

Tomas Starodubcevas of Tudor Lodge, Woodlawn Road is charged with robbing American tourist Andrea Bartlett of €325 on Port Road in Killarney on 22 April.

He is alleged to have approached the woman from behind causing her to fall to the ground where she broke her arm.

He appeared before Listowel District Court in May and was remanded on bail with a number of conditions.

Judge David Waters refused jurisdiction for the case in the District Court.

He adjourned the matter to September for a book of evidence to be compiled for the Circuit Court.

Mr Starodubcevas has been remanded on continuing bail until then.

The conditions include signing on daily at Killarney Garda Station, observing a curfew, surrendering his passport and remaining in the jurisdiction.

He is a Lithuanian national.

He is also ordered to stay out of Killarney National Park and stay away from the Port Road.
