Gardai are continuing to quiz two suspects – after this young dad from a single stab wound to his leg.

Gardai have launched an investigation following the discovery of a body near Listowel in the early hours of Monday morning.
A man aged in his 40s was discovered with fatal injuries at the scene of an alleged assault in Knockanure, Co Kerry shortly after midnight and was pronounced dead upon arrival of the emergency services.
The deceased man’s body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry, where a post-mortem will take place in due course.

A man aged in his 30s has been arrested and he remains detained at a Garda station in Kerry.
Gardaí are now investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death of the man and have launched an appeal for information.

In an update issued just minutes ago gardai said: “Gardaí continue to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the death of a man, aged in his 40s which occurred following an incident in Knockanure, Co. Kerry, in the early hours of this morning, Monday 27th May 2024.
“A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested this afternoon in connection with this investigation and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in the Kerry Division. The man, aged in his 30s, arrested earlier this morning remains in Garda custody at this time. Investigations ongoing.”

Another local councillor, Robert Beasley, has offered his condolences to the family of the deceased, who has been named locally as Ger Kennelly.
“When something like this happens out in the country, it’s always a shock. It is devastating news for the family and the whole area,” he told the Irish Mirror.

Local Councillor Mike Kennelly has said the entire area is stunned following the violent death of a man in Knockanure in the early hours of this morning, describing it as “probably the most quaint little village in Kerry”.
“For something like this to happen in an area like this is truly shocking,” he told the Irish Mirror. “It is a shellshock that this is happening, and my sympathies are with the family of this man.”
He said the family of the deceased is “widely known and well-respected” in this area of Kerry.
“I would encourage absolutely anyone and everyone who may have seen anything or know anything to come forward and help the gardaí with their enquiries,” added Councillor Kennelly.

One local in the village of Knockanure has told of their shock at awaking to the news of the death. He said: “Knockanure is a very quiet and peaceful village, everyone knows everyone and we’re a close-knit community – this is the last thing anyone would expect.”

It’s understood that the victim of this morning’s alleged assault was stabbed, sustaining a single wound to his lower torso.

Gardai have confirmed that the local coroner has been informed of the incident, and the services of the State Pathologist have been requested.
The scene is currently preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau this morning.

“Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Knockanure village between 12:00am and 1:00am and may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this available.
