Kompany lands Bayern job, Flick takes over Barcelona
Bayern Munich have appointed Vincent Kompany as their new manager on a deal until June 2027 after the Belgian parted ways with Burnley following their relegation from the Premier League.
“Vincent Kompany is the new head coach of FC Bayern, putting pen to paper on a deal until 2027,” read a post on Bayern’s X account.
Burnley, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, have already begun the search for Kompany’s successor.
“We can confirm that Burnley Football Club has come to an agreement that will allow Vincent Kompany to leave Turf Moor,” read a club statement.
“Whilst we were initially confident in retaining our manager, the changing dynamics of the situation made this impossible.
“We understand the allure and prestige of a club like Bayern Munich and respect Vincent’s ambition to explore new opportunities.”
Meanwhile Barcelona have appointed former Germany and Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick as the club’s new head coach.
The 59-year-old German has agreed a two-year deal with the Catalan club.
Flick succeeds Xavi, who was last week sacked after previously performing a U-turn on his decision to leave the role.
“FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men’s first-team football coach until 30 June 2026,” a club statement read.
Flick was dismissed by Germany in September following a 4-1 friendly defeat to Japan on the back of a group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He served as assistant coach to Joachim Low when his country won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, before clinching back-to-back Bundesliga titles and the 2020 Champions League during a two-season stay with Bayern.
