Landmark outing for Hanlon at Limerick

ON HIS first outing in Ireland as a professional, rising star Paddy Hanlon of Carlow enjoyed a historic riding double at Limerick’s Greenmount Park, Patrickswell.

Hanlon, who only turned 18 a couple of days earlier to allow him to join the paid ranks here, had registered three previous winners in Britian but his first victory on native soil came with 25/1 shot Half a Chance, trained by his father John ‘Shark’ Hanlon, in the Connollys RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle.

The youngster returned to the winners’ enclousre soon after with Seaset (11/1), which scored in the Tote, Never Beaten by SP Handicap Hurdle.

In the opener, trainer father Charles Byrnes and jockey son Philip of Ballingarry teamed up to land the Download the new Tote App Claiming Hurdle with the well-supported Kendancer (15/8jf).
