Large retailer announces plans for new store on Cork’s northside
Jysk, which sells furniture and interior décor, has sought permission to open its fourth Cork store.
The Danish company has submitted planning application to Cork City Council seeking permission for a revamp of an outlet in Blackpool Retail Park.
In planning documents lodged last week, they have requested permission for the change of use of first floor level storage areas to retail areas.
They have also asked for permission to change of use of ancillary office areas to storage areas, make internal alterations to back of house areas and alterations to the existing mezz floor to provide a new circulation staircase and platform lift.
Their planning application also requests permission for external aircon units and associated internal ancillary works necessary to facilitate the development.
Jysk currently has 21 Irish stores, including in Ballincollig, Youghal and Little Island.
It comes as the brand today announced plans to establish a 50,000m2 distribution centre in Ireland, which they aim to have operational by the second half of 2024.
The new distribution centre will provide better service and shorter delivery lead times, as well as more efficient stock management to JYSK’s rapidly increasing customer numbers both online and in-store across the UK and Ireland.
The first JYSK store opened in Naas in 2019, and since then, JYSK has gone on to open 20 stores in towns and cities across the country, with plans to open another 10 in Ireland by the end of 2024.
