LE 2024 Candidate Quickfire: Caroline Griffin (Sinn Fein) – News – Waterford News & Star

Ahead of this weekend’s local elections the Waterford News & Star asked candidates to answer 10 quickfire questions to give the electorate a view of their priorities and what can be expected from them if elected.

Cath Lab or airport?

Cath lab. It’s not a life or death situation to travel to another airport for now but we definitely need an airport too.

Specific problems in your own electoral ward you would like to see addressed?

Affordable housing and Infrastructure to meet the needs of ALL residents of the electoral ward.

What’s your favourite album or book?

Favourite album: Phil Collins, ‘Face Value’. Favourite book: Jane Austen, ‘Pride and Prejudice’.

Why did you get into politics?

I got into politics because I was fed up with the same old same old and I want to try to make a difference in people’s lives.

What’s your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is surviving cancer twice.

Potholes or cycle lanes – which would you invest in first?

Potholes, there’s no point in having cycle lanes when the cars have to encroach them to avoid the potholes.

Tea or coffee?

Tea, I only drink coffee occasionally.

Your favourite blaa filling?

My favourite blaa filling is ham,cheese and mayonnaise.

Biggest political influence?

My biggest political influence has to be the formidable female leaders of Sinn Fein, such as Mary Lou McDonald, Michelle O’Neill and Louise O’Reilly.

Who makes the most dinners in your house?

At the moment homemade dinners are a rarity in our house with both myself and my husband Jim canvassing to contest in two different electoral areas. Ordinarily it’s pretty much 50/50.

What one thing would you most like to see change in Waterford during your term, if elected?

I would like to see Waterford become the vibrant City with decent shops, attractions and facilities, (including an airport}, that it has the potential to be.
