Leeds United’s 36-word transfer statement sums up player impact amid PSR change
A first transfer fee of the summer has landed at Elland Road with Leeds United’s sale of Marc Roca to Real Betis. A handful of loan and free exits have been secured since the end of last season, but the Spaniard’s is the first permanent switch delivering a fee for the Whites.
While the bid remains undisclosed, as reported last week, LeedsLive understands the deal will not be marked as a loss on United’s profitability and sustainability (PSR) projections. A fee of around £5m will be required from the Seville outfit to ensure this is the case, while United are pleased with the savings made on Roca’s wages too.
The 27-year-old had two years remaining on his Leeds contract and would have seen his transfer value collapse if his departure had been delayed until next summer. After 37 appearances under Manuel Pellegrini, the interest in retaining Roca beyond his season-long loan has been very clear in the Spanish media.

Roca departs with 36 Leeds appearances to his name in one season with the Whites that resulted in relegation after a transfer from Bayern Munich. His exit has been confirmed by United in a terse 36-word statement that cuts to the chase.
“Leeds United can confirm Marc Roca has joined Spanish La Liga outfit Real Betis, for an undisclosed fee. Roca spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Estadio Benito Villamarín and has now agreed a permanent move.”
Luke Ayling, Lewis Bate, Jack Harrison, Sonny Perkins and Ian Poveda are the other United players to have had exits confirmed since the Championship play-off final loss.
