Limerick senior football championship clubs battle for the coveted Fr Casey Cup title
THE 2024 Irish Wire Products Ltd County Senior Football Championship gets underway this weekend as Newcastle West begin their campaign to win their fourth senior football championship in-a-row.
The defending champions will compete in Group 2 of the championship alongside 2024 league champions Fr Caseys, Oola, Kildimo-Pallaskenry, Ballysteen and Galtee Gaels.
The opening round of championship games get underway this weekend with Newcastle West facing Fr Caseys for the third time this year on Friday, June 28 at 7:30pm in Tournafulla.
Elsewhere in group two Ballysteen face off against Kildimo-Pallaskenry also on Friday at 7:30pm in Sean Finn Park, Rathkeale and Oola compete against Galtee Gaels on Saturday, June 29 at 7:30pm in Knocklong.
In group one of the senior football championship last year’s finalists Adare will be looking to top their group with an opening round fixture against Monaleen on Thursday, June 27 in Mungret to open their campaign.
The remaining clubs in group one are city team Na Piarsaigh, St Kieran’s, Ballylanders and the 2023 intermediate champions Mungret St Paul’s.
The recently promoted side will get their first taste of senior championship action when they take on Na Piarsaigh in their opening round fixture on Friday, June 28 at Claughaun GAA.
The final opening round game of the senior football championship gets underway at 7:30pm on Saturday between Ballylanders and St Kieran’s at Ballyagran.
The Griffin Coaches County Intermediate Football Championship and the Woodlands House Hotel County Premier Junior A Football Championship also gets underway this coming weekend with a host of fixtures taking place.
Claughaun will be looking to get back up to the senior ranks after dropping to the intermediate competition this year. They take on Rathkeale in their opening championship game in Askeaton on Saturday at 7:30pm.
The golden boot award will also be in play this season for the top scorer in the Limerick club senior Football championship. 2023 was the first time the award was given out with Peter Nash from Kildimo-Pallaskenry winning the trophy scoring 4-33 (45 points) with Hugh Bourke of Adare in second place with 2-37 (43 points).
