Limerick woman loses thousands in phone scam
GARDAÍ in Limerick are warning people to be vigilant about scams, even ones that seem very convincing.
On May 29, a woman in her early 30s told gardaí she had been victim to a scam.
She had gotten a phone call from someone who said they were from Amazon customer service, they told her phone had been hacked and that her financial details were in danger.
The woman was asked by the scam caller to move her money into a particular Revolut account to keep it safe.

She was told the money would be returned to her once her phone was secure.
Sergeant Ber Leetch of Henry Street garda station said: “Unfortunately, the woman believed this and so to protect her money she transferred it to the given Revolut account.
“She made two transactions to a total of over €2,500. That money is now gone.
“These scammers are very clever, they persuade you that they are acting for your good and there is always an urgency. My advice is stop and think could this be a scam? Hang up, contact a trusted friend or family member, and discuss it.
“Under no circumstances should you move your money, your financial institution will never ask you to do this,” Sergeant Leetch warned.
