Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown reveals behind-the-scenes details on Receiver

Detroit Lions star wideout Amon-Ra. St. Brown gave fans an inside look at reality TV production and Netflix‘s new series, Receiver.

The NFL Films project follows five pass catchers from around the NFL over the 2023 season: Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams, Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, his teammate, receiver Deebo Samuel, and St. Brown.

The new series follows a similar project from NFL Films titled ‘Quarterback,’ which offered a behind-the-scenes look at passers like Patrick Mahomes II.

Receiver promises the same access, and as St. Brown explained, the production never felt too intrusive.

‘Honestly it was easy,’ he said in a recent episode of his podcast. ‘It was not too invasive. They did a great job of making it seamless. They mic’d me up once a week for practice. I was mic’d up, I think, every Wednesday because that’s the biggest practice day in the NFL. Tuesday’s off, Wednesday’s your biggest work day.

‘They would mic me up on Wednesday, and the camera crew would be there for practice. And then they’d mic me up on game days — every game day. Camera crews would be there.’

As St. Brown explained, the footage provides great perspective on ‘what we do on the field.’

‘You guys will understand how much goes into preparation and actually playing,’ he said.

But perhaps the more memorable aspect of the show focuses on the players’ lives away from the field: ‘The kind of people we are, our family. What makes us tick.’

St. Brown admits he hasn’t watched the entire series yet, yet he’s confident in its approach because it encapsulates both ends of the NFL spectrum.

‘I’ve only seen some parts,’ said St. Brown, who is coming off a historic NFC championship game berth with the Lions. ‘So I’m excited to see the whole thing in its entirety with all the athletes. Was talking to Davante. I feel like everyone’s story’s different. Everyone’s outcome of the season — obviously with the Raiders, his was probably not how he wanted it to go. Justin Jefferson got hurt. The Niners go all the way to the Super Bowl and don’t win. We get close.

‘So everyone’s story is different,’ he continued. ‘Everyone’s background is different.’

As for his favorite part of the series, St. Brown hesitated before deciding on the episode ‘where we play the Rams.’

‘I dye my hair blue,’ he said. ‘Make sure you guys tune into that episode. Legendary.’

The Lions hosted the Rams in the first round of the NFC playoffs, where St. Brown embarrassed LA’s secondary for 110 yards on seven catches.

Receiver is currently available on Netflix.
