Liverpool transfer news live amid Anthony Gordon latest and Nico Williams update

Liverpool transfer news burst into life over the weekend as it emerged that there could be a chance to land Anthony Gordon. And the speculation about the England winger hasn’t completely died down just yet.

An initial proposal involved Jarell Quansah going the other way, which Liverpool rejected out of hand. But the Reds could use other makeweights in the deal, with Caoimhin Kelleher plus cash one option reportedly explored. A straight cash offer shouldn’t be ruled out either given how talented the 23-year-old is.

Elsewhere, there has been another update on Spain forward Nico Williams while Odilon Kossounou has rejected the chance to sign a new deal under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen. As a result, he could be on the move this summer. Liverpool, of course, should be looking to sign a center-back and he is being linked with a switch to Anfield.

There will be plenty more going on too, in all likelihood, with pre-season about to begin for Liverpool. And we’ll have all the updates from Euro 2024 too with more matches coming later in the day.

Riccardo Calafiori latest

Bologna would prefer to sell Riccardo Calafiori to a Premier League side this summer as they become resigned to losing the defender, according to The Mirror.

Liverpool and Arsenal are both said to be interested in the Italy international, although Juventus has also been linked.

Bologna though is reluctant to sell to the Turin club, having seen manager Thiago Motta make the move their earlier in the summer, handing an advantage to Liverpool and other Premier League sides.

Liverpool ‘ready’ to hijack Man Utd deal

Liverpool is ready to hijack Manchester United’s move for Manuel Ugarte, according to Teamtalk.

United is said to be eyeing up the midfielder as a replacement for Casemiro, who is likely to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Arne Slot though is said to want a new defensive midfielder, with Liverpool holding the advantage of offering Champions League football to Ugarte.

Liverpool ‘favorite’ for Kimmich

Liverpool is the favorite to sign Joshua Kimmich this summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport (via Paisley Gates).

Barcelona is said to be pressing for the Bayern Munich midfielder, with new boss Hansi Flick keen on a reunion at the Camp Nou.

The Catalan club though faces competition from the Premier League, with Liverpool said to be the favorite to land Kimmich as the Reds can offer a higher salary.

Cherki set for Dortmund move

Borussia Dortmund has won the race for Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, according to L’Equipe.

The 20-year-old was also linked with Liverpool, while a move to PSG seemed to be on the cards.

Dortmund though has reportedly hijacked the move to the French capital, having matched PSG’s offer.

Mamardashvili rules out Bayern move

Giorgi Mamardashvili has ruled out a move to Bayern Munich this summer, with the Georgia goalkeeper also linked with Liverpool.

The 23-year-old was a standout performer for his country at Euro 2024, with Georgia’s run ending at the hands of Spain on Sunday. Speaking to Sky Germany, he has dismissed suggestions he could move to the Bundesliga:

Bayern still have the best goalkeeper in the world. Therefore, it’s currently not possible to move there. I would only go there if I’ll play. If I don’t play, then not.

Kvaratskhelia turns down PSG

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has turned down a move to PSG as he eyes up the Premier League, according to a source close to the player.

The 23-year-old’s involvement at Euro 2024 came to an end on Sunday as Georgia were knocked out by Spain, although the Napoli star caught the eye. Liverpool has been linked, but could face competition for his signature, with a source close to Kvaratskhelia saying (via the ECHO):

Liverpool have been linked with Kvaratskhelia, but two other Premier League clubs want him. He turned down PSG because he wants to come to England.

Odilon Kossounou in demand

There is supposedly a new name at the top of Liverpool’s list of center-back targets for this summer, according to Caught Offside: Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou.

However, Manchester United is also said to be interested in the 23-year-old. The player is said to have rejected a new contract with Xabi Alonso’s side and could therefore be on the move in this transfer window. Leverkusen views him as “replaceable” and is therefore willing to let him leave.

Leny Yoro is someone Liverpool likes a lot but he is expected to move to Real Madrid while Jarrad Branthwaite has proven to be too expensive for Manchester United. As a result, both clubs are perhaps in need of alternatives for their top targets.

The ECHO did report last week, though, that if Liverpool couldn’t get Yoro, it might not sign a defender at all. That would be a big risk, but the Reds have gone down the ‘perfect or nothing’ route before.

Anthony Gordon latest after PSR deadline passes

Liverpool could still be interested in a move for the Newcastle United and England winger Anthony Gordon despite there being absolutely no chance of the Reds being prepared to lose Jarell Quansah as part of the deal.

That is according to The Guardian, which also reports that Gordon would be open to the move. Over the weekend, it emerged that a medical had been penciled in somewhere in Leipzig while Gordon is away with England. But that didn’t happen after no progress was made over a deal.

Nico Williams transfer claim

According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea has decided against making a move for Athletic Bilbao and Spain forward Nico Williams this summer after links with both Liverpool and Barcelona.

It is understood, however, that Williams is not on Liverpool’s list of forward options. While he has a reasonable release clause, the 21-year-old is on big wages in La Liga. After impressing at Euro 2024, he would not be a cheap acquisition.
